Pupil Leadership

At Ancaster, we believe that every child should be given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills in as many ways as possible. As such, all children are given the chance to apply or be nominated. Find out below just some of the ways that we encourage our pupils to exercise their right to have their voices heard and realise their own Power to Change.

Castle Captains and School Council

Our children are split into four Castle Teams - Belvoir, Grimsthorpe, Lincoln and Tattershall. The children work together to collect team points and the winning team each term is rewarded. Each team is led by two Castle Captains from Year 6 and these children lead events, including fundraisers, for the whole school.

Our School Council is lead by our Castle Captains and two pupils from each class. We hold a democratic vote within each class to ensure the children are elected fairly into their roles. School Councillors meet with Mrs Dickinson to discuss important issues for our school, which are then share with classes. Most recently the School Council were given a budget to spend on new playground equipment which is proving very popular!

Well-Being Ambassadors

Our Well-Being Ambassadors have a key role in school. They support with key events, such as Power to Change Week and our annual well-being festival, 'WellFest'. They also help gather pupil voice, support with staff recruitment and report to Governors.

Light Leaders

Our Light Leaders are from Year 6 and work across school supporting younger children in a daily act of prayer and reflection, based on our common language of spirituality (Ow, Wow and Now). Our Light Leaders ensure our guiding lights are central to each day.

JOSOs

Our Junior Online Safety Officers (JOSOs) are from Year 5. They work in many areas to raise awareness of being safe online. They contribute to worships, communicate with parents and speak to children across school.  We are really proud of their work.

Sports Ambassadors

Our Sports Ambassadors can be seen at breaks and lunch supporting younger children in games. These children have been selected for their leadership qualities and their interest in sports development. The children have been trained to be effective playground leaders alongside our Sports Apprentice, Mr Calum Short and by Inspire+, the sports charity we work with to ensure that our sports provision is as effective as possible.

Librarians

Our wonderful team of librarians from Year 5 help keep the library tidy and well stocked. They also make sure the library is open after school at least 3 days a week for children to borrow books.
