Parent Sharing is Back! 9th December at 2.15pm
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are delighted to inform you that we are bringing back 'Parent Sharing' opportunities where parents and carers are able to come into school at a given time and spend time in your child's classroom. We have been unable to do this for such a long time since the pandemic began but these always have been so well attended and we have tweaked the way in which we will run them to allow you to witness the huge amounts of learning, creativity and fun that is had by everyone undertaking our curriculum.
On Friday 9th December, each class will undertake their WOW day. The focus of the WOW day is to revisit the history based topic that the children were taught in Term 1 and is not only a chance to celebrate what they now know, have learnt and remembered-it is also a chance for them to strengthen their understanding of this area and make more connections to deepen understanding. We approach the day through the lens of enriching the curriculum so there will be different activities and opportunities on offer throughout the day that will enable the children to explore the theme further and put their learning into action.
At 2.15pm, we are inviting parents and carers into school to visit your child(ren) in their classroom and spend some time with them, observing activities or participating in them (we have always loved parental participation) and if you have more than one child in school, you can spend time visiting all of the classrooms to get the best understanding of what they have been learning.
We know that the last 3 years has meant that you have not been able to be as fully active as you once were as a parental community in school but we are reversing that and want nothing more than to see our school flooded with parents and carers for the last hour of the WOW day so that you can be experience their learning and see the wonderful opportunities in action for yourself.
We hope to see you there.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Clubs Information for Term 2
Click here to view the Clubs Overview for Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please find attached the details of extra-curricular clubs that are due to run next term. Please note that we always take the decision to delay the availability of clubs to Reception children until after Christmas as they continue to build their stamina and get used to the demands of a school day/week and term.
Please read through and discuss the club options with your child(ren) and please only sign them up for clubs that they want to take part in. We are aware that clubs can help with childcare arrangements but from experience, it is difficult to manage when a child is not attending because they are keen and eager but because they are being told to. A difficult consequence of this is that there will be other children who desperately do want a place not being able to access it because the club is full.
Once you have selected your choices, please complete the associated Microsoft Form for each club that you would like your child(ren) to attend and the deadline for completion on Thursday 20th October. We will inform you of club place allocations on Friday 21st October. All clubs will then start on the first week back after half term (w/c 31st October) with the exception of Cookery which will start the following week.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us in school for any more details.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Optional Collection from 1pm-19th July 2022
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have been keeping an eye on the temperatures and the way our classrooms are responding to today’s heat. Today feels different to yesterday and we have now already exceeded the highest temperature that we saw yesterday during school time. As a result, we have decided to offer you the opportunity, should you wish, to collect your child this afternoon so that they can be more comfortable in their own home.
We are not closing the school and will remain open as usual for anyone that needs us to. If you’re unable to collect your child, please do not worry-we will do everything we can to help them manage and keep safe with usual collection expected at 3.30pm.
All children will have had lunch today in school as usual.
If you would like to collect-then we ask that you come to the main gates between 1pm and 1.15pm and we will direct you to collect from your usual spaces. If you need to arrive after this time, please come to the main reception. You do not need to let us know if you are coming to collect-please just either arrive at the designated time or afterwards to the main office and we will manage the collection for you.
Thank you for your understanding and patience and I hope that you are all ok during these temperatures.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Sports Afternoon Information
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you into school on Thursday afternoon for Sports Afternoon. The children are very excited to take part in the different sporting activities. Below is information related to how the event will work and the associated timings.
Please can we ask that parents and carers arrive around 1.10pm. We will open the main gates and direct you to the playground and field where the children will be waiting to begin the afternoon activities. The front of school will be busy so it would be wise for those who can to walk rather than drive.
The children will be split into 4 teams-please ask your child which team they are in as this will help you to quickly locate them on arrival.
Approx. 1.20pm-Carousel of activities. Children will rotate around 4 activities in mixed age groups. As groups move to each activity-parents will follow their child, with siblings in the same group to make this easier.
Approx. 2pm-following the carousel of activities, we will then move to the running track on the field. The children will sit on the playing field side of the track in class groups and parents can congregate along the other side to watch the children undertake the races which will last for around 45m-1hour.
We envisage that the Sports Afternoon will finish around 3pm and we will then take the children back to class to collect their belongings. If you would like to collect your child at this time, we will ask that you wait patiently in your usual collection areas and we will release the children to you. All children are to be collected as usual by 3.30pm.
Parents and Carers will be able to take photographs throughout the event. We just ask, as usual, that you do not put any children, of which you don't have permission, on social media without taking steps to protect these children's anonymity (blurring faces etc).
We are very excited to run this event and hope to see you on Thursday.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Clubs-Term 6
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have been busy putting together a menu of clubs for Term 6 and are delighted to offer an array of different clubs all provided by our incredible staff team. Please click here for more information on each of the clubs.
We have simplified the way that you apply for a place on these clubs. Each of the clubs has a link to a Microsoft Form related to that particular club-we are asking you to complete these forms to register interest in your child joining the club. If more children apply for places than the total places available, a draw will be held to determine the places and this will be done as fairly as possible to ensure that all children receive access to at least one club across the week. We are asking for all expressions of interest to be registered by Wednesday 8th June 2022. Parents will be notified if a place has been gained by Friday 10th June.
We are very much looking forward to delivering these clubs and enriching the wider curriculum and ensuring children get the opportunity to continue their learning and enjoyment in different areas of the curriculum.
Best Wishes,

Additional Bank Holiday: Queen's Jubilee
Dear Parents and Carers,
As part of the celebrations for the Queen's platinum Jubilee, an additional Bank Holiday has been planned which takes place during the May Half Term break.
As this additional Bank Holiday is already when the school is closed and forms part of a planned school closure, provisions for this additional Bank Holiday need to be given at a different time for school staff to ensure that they have the same amount of 'additional days' as everyone else. For this reason, Lincolnshire County Council have informed us that the additional day will be given to all school staff on Tuesday 19th April meaning school will be closed on this day. This is a change to the original school term dates that were published in September and our website has been updated to reflect this. https://www.ancasterprimary.org.uk/Term.asp
Please be aware that school closes for the Easter break on Thursday 31st March and will then re-open for Term 5 on Wednesday 20th April at the usual times.
Hopefully this advanced notice will help with any planning of your Easter holiday activities in readiness for the upcoming break.
Best Wishes,

Clubs-Term 2 2021
Click here to see the Clubs Information for Term 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
Having not had the opportunity to undertake many of the elements of wider school life for some time due to the restrictions previously in place as a result of Covid-19, we are now becoming more and more able to implement activities which allow us to operate as we usually would. Not having access to wider enrichment activities such as clubs, has been difficult as it is in these sessions children have the opportunity to develop and grow outside of the formal school curriculum.
We are delighted to be able to share with you that our first offer of clubs will commence after half term. The document attached outlines all of the clubs that will be running next term. We have a mixture of sessions which have ‘no charge’ as well as sessions which carry additional charges for them to run as they are being provided by a third party. Please discuss with your child(ren) the different clubs on offer and then follow the steps below so that we receive your request and we will get back to you in the timescales outlined below.
Next Steps:
• If your child would like to participate in any of the clubs, please email clubs@ancaster.lincs.sch.uk
• In the email-state clearly the child’s name, class/teacher, pick up arrangements for the end of the club, emergency contact number and the club(s)
• All requests to be emailed by Tuesday 19th October.
• If the club is over-subscribed names will be drawn at random to ensure fairness and equality.
• You will be notified by email whether your child has a place at their chosen club by Thursday 21st October.
• Please ensure that any payment for clubs are received in advance of the club starting (where payment is needed) and by Monday 1st November 2021 at the latest.
We are thrilled to be able to offer such a wide variety of clubs and thank all of our staff and wider companies who are giving their time freely for this important aspect of school life to begin operating once again.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Information Regarding New Academic Year
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope this communication finds you well as we progress through this final week of the holidays and towards the start of the new academic year on Monday next week. As we have moved through the Summer, we have been keeping a very close eye on the guidance that has been published and what this means for our return to school. Below is a letter that outlines how school will look moving forward and we are delighted that we are now in a position to hopefully begin to return to a level of normality. Should you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me and I have also included a link within the letter to the official DfE guidance which all school settings are working from now and from which, our response has been generated.
I am very much looking forward to catching up with everybody on our return and hearing all about the holiday adventures that have taken place over the last 6 weeks. See you all on Monday 6th.

End of Academic Year Message from Mr Eden
Dear Parents/Carers,
As the start of the school holiday gets underway, I wanted to write to you to say a huge thank you for your constant support. We are so very lucky to be supported by such a wonderful complement of parents/carers and together we have been able to achieve what has, at times, felt like the impossible. Having had to navigate more lockdowns, remote learning and isolations than ever before-I am so very proud of Ancaster and our achievements this year.
In the face of adversity, our children have continued to thrive and the fact that we have made it to this point with relatively low levels of Covid-19 cases or bubble closures is testament to both our close parent partnerships as well as the protective measures we quickly adopted. Once again, I thank you immensely for adhering to these and helping keep everyone safe.
This week, we said goodbye to our wonderful Y6 children who are ready to take the spirit of Ancaster that is firmly embedded within them to flourish and fly as they embark on the next step of their educational journey. Please join me in wishing the children (and parents) all the very best as this exciting phase begins! The same is true of the members of staff and other children/families that have left from other year groups to relocate to different parts of the country-we wish you all the very best and will always be here if you ever need us.
What the summer break affords is the opportunity to relax, reset and reconnect with family and friends that you might not have been able to spend as much time with over the past year-I hope lots of memories are made. We are certainly looking forward to hearing all about the summertime adventures that take place on our return in September.
With school now closed for the summer break, should you need to contact me for any reason you are welcome to email me on sam.eden@ancaster.lincs.sch.uk and I will respond to you as soon as I am able.
Have a wonderful summer everyone!
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

19th July (Step 4) and beyond (September)
Dear Parents and Carers,
During Covid, we have had a raft of measures in place to support the health and safety of us all as we have navigated the pandemic and in response to guidance published by the Department for Education. As we approach Monday 19th July, which represents the move to Step 4 of the UK's planned roadmap out of the current lockdown procedures, I wanted to write to explain to you that despite Monday 19th July being before we close for the Summer break, we will not be changing any of our expectations, routines or procedures and will be keeping everything in place right up until our closure on Wednesday evening. Please can we ask that parents continue to adhere to the mask wearing, staggered starts and distancing measures that we have had in place this year and we cannot thank you enough for how much you have worked with us on this as it has undoubtedly had an impact on keeping case numbers low for our school setting.
As we move to September, I feel that it is far too early to say what the landscape will look like in the new academic year when this is still such a long time away so as it stands, whilst the emerging guidance suggests that we will not be working within bubbles and there will not be any need for staggered starts and ends etc, we will closely monitor the situation and wait for any further guidance to be published to then update you in the week before we come back to school in September. With case numbers rising quickly and the impact of Stage 4 needing to be seen first, it is felt by us as school leaders as well as the Governing Body, that this cautious approach is the best and only way we can plan for the next period of time. Please be assured that we will contact you as soon as any firm plans are made regarding logistical arrangements. School is due to reopen for all children on 6th September.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

PE Kits in September
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have been asked several times this week whether children will continue coming into school in September in their PE Kit on PE days or whether we will revert back to the usual practice of the kit being in school and used whenever we undertake a PE session.
Having discussed this in detail recently, we are keen to revert to children having their PE Kit in their locker and then getting changed in and out of kit whenever the sessions take place. This will enable a greater degree of flexibility in our teaching time and also allow us to move back to two separate PE sessions across the week rather than our current approach of PE being undertaken across one whole afternoon.
We do know that some families are in favour of the children coming in already wearing their PE Kit but having weighed up all considerations for this, we feel that the decision above is the best way to move forward. We recognise that this may have implications on the amount of uniform you need to buy for September so we wanted to make you aware of this as soon as possible.
Please be reminded of our expectations on uniform and PE kit by clicking on the following link which reiterates the message sent out to parents last term. https://www.ancasterprimary.org.uk/Uniform.asp
Should you have any questions regarding this, please do not hesitate to ask.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Sports Day/Parental Involvement
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move through this term and begin to make preparations for the end of the academic year, we are beginning to get enquiries about how events such as Sports Day will look this year.
This evening, the Prime Minister is due to announce what will happen next with respect to further easing of restrictions. It is likely that freedom from restrictions are to be delayed by a period of time, but despite this we have already decided that we will not be changing any of our current systems or procedures between now and the end of this academic year. We envisage that any further changes that we do make will be made for the start of the new academic year in September (which will, of course, be made in line with updated guidance).
With this in mind, we will be holding Sports Day on Friday 16th July. This year, we will be holding our Sports Day events during the school day and unfortunately, due to current restrictions, we will not be inviting parents, carers or family members to attend. All end of year events that would usually take place will be modified to ensure that we finish the end of year as we always have, but due to Covid-19, parents will not be able to attend I am afraid. If we are unable to hold Sports Day on 16th July, we have also pencilled in 19th July as an alternative date. I can also confirm that we will not be holding a Summer Fayre this year.
We do appreciate that Sports Day is a special time in the calendar and an opportunity for parents and carers to see children in a different light away from the classroom. Please be assured that we will share as many pictures as possible from the day and look forward to helping each child continue to be the best they can be in all aspects of the curriculum. I very much look forward to next year, where we can hopefully return to normal; involving parents and carers/family members in all aspects of school life.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Omegle
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please find attached an information sheet regarding a free video messaging service that is becoming popular amongst young people called Omegle. The information sheet is quite detailed and should give you everything you need to know about the platform as well as the next steps to follow in putting restrictions in place for your child to stop them using this as the site has direct links to another service which streams adult sexually explicit content and is deemed unsafe for children to use.
Whilst we are not aware of any children at Ancaster using this service, we do know that it is becoming popular with school aged children across the country and wanted to highlight this to you so you can put measures in place if your child shows an interest in the service.

Good lookin Cookin Order Update
End of Term 3 Message from Mr Eden
Dear Parents, Carers, Children and Staff,
Well, we have made it to the end of this very bizarre, often frustrating, and highly stressful term. I have to say, that in the years I have worked in education, this term has been the most intense due to the lockdown and the need to adapt and evolve extremely quickly to the varying elements that have been introduced at speed. I have to be honest and say that it is down to you all that this has run has smoothly as it has-I am in awe of you all...throughout everything though, the trials and tribulations that have presented have been overshadowed by the smiles and the joy seen in the connections that continue to be made and the learning, in spite of everything, that has continued regardless of the barriers we have faced.
Parents and Carers-you are all truly phenomenal! Your patience, resilience, support, honesty, openness and kindness has known no bounds (as always) and your encouragement has helped get everyone through! To those who have continued to homeschool-I take my hat off to you-the job is relentless and difficult when you have to wear all of your other hats and I know first hand how that particular juggling act can go-you’ve done a great job and your children will only ever thank you as you both remember these crazy times-Well done!!!
Children-well, what can I say...every challenge and obstacle that is put in your way, you overcome it with determination, resilience and achievement! I am literally the proudest headteacher in the world right now as I sit and consider what an exceptional bunch you are! Thank you for your hard work and efforts-we are so proud of you and you need to make sure you rest and relax this half term (your parents will definitely appreciate a few lie-ins)! Keep smiling and keep safe-we shall see you soon!
Staff-we have planned, implemented, amended and evolved all in blocks of 24 hours, taking every day as it comes to ensure our children and families gain every ounce of support needed. Our school community is thriving because of every post holder in our glorious school...thank you for your service...thank you for your enthusiasm and encouragement and thank you for putting others before yourself as we continue in our quest to help our school community be the best we can be!
Have a restful half term break everyone...my fingers are so very tightly crossed that we can welcome the children back into school very soon...as soon as we know more, we shall be in touch regarding this but for now-we are where we are, which may well be in Lockdown, but ultimately, we are in this together and united and for that I cannot ever thank you enough.
Take care everyone, stay safe and well and I shall look forward to seeing you next term.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Half Term-February Arrangements
Dear Parents and Carers,
I wanted to write to you with respect to the forthcoming half term that is scheduled to take place on week commencing 15th February. In the past, during the pandemic, the school has remained open for the provision of key worker families and vulnerable children during half term holidays. We have had notification from the Department for Education that for the February half term break, all schools are to close as they would if schools were open as usual, meaning that for the period of Monday 15th February to Friday 19th February, school will be closed to all pupils and no remote learning will be posted during this time. Children will not be expected to undertake any scheduled learning during this time.
Please use the holiday period to encourage the children to move away from their screens and devices as this term, unlike any other, has promoted the children spending more time than ever online.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support as we navigate our way through this lockdown. Should you need us for anything in the period before half term, please do not hesitate to ask. School will reopen for Key Worker/vulnerable children who have requested provision for the week commencing 22nd February and it is at the same time that the teaching staff will also begin posting online learning and live sessions with Term 4 starting on Monday 22nd February 2021.
Best Wishes,

Remote Learning Update-7th January 2021
Dear Parents and Carers,
First of all, I hope you are all well and safe. It has been very strange not having everyone back in school and having to repurpose our provision within such small timescales. Please find attached a letter which I apologise is very long...I have spent a long time seeing what I could take out to reduce its length and have managed to get it down to 3 pages (you know how much I like to talk)! Please grab a cup of tea and read the letter which has quite a lot of information included.
Click here to read the letter from Mr Eden regarding remote learning
I do know that access to devices for remote learning are not as plentiful in every household and that it is difficult to organise home learning when you have your own work commitments to meet too so I thank you for taking the time to ensure that your child's access arrangements have been carefully thought out during this time to enable them continuity of provision.
As I outline in the letter, we are always here to help in any way we possibly can and if you need any support we will endeavour to do whatever we can to help.
Take care everybody and I look forward to seeing you as soon as we are able to be back together once again!
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden
Critical Worker Update Information
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please see the attached information and to consider its contents very carefully. We desperately need to ensure that the provision we offer is accessed by those that truly need it-so are asking you to take into consideration everything that is said in the letter and whether or not sending your child into school is the best available option when the overwhelming message from the UK Government is now to stay at home.

School Closure Announcement
Dear Parents and Carers,
Following such a successful return to school today for our children, I am writing this with a heavy heart and with great frustration.
As you are possibly aware, the Prime Minister announced at 8pm tonight that all schools must close from today apart for children of Critical Workers and Vulnerable Children.
Yet again this is very last minute and due to this late notice, we have made the difficult decision to close for ALL children on Tuesday 5th January. This will allow for leaders to establish the demand, and plan for the safe and effective provision for children of keyworker parents.
We apologise for this disruption and lack of notice, this is not of our doing and certainly not how we like to work at Ancaster. I can only apologise and hope you understand and continue to support the school in the amazing way you have so far.
Tomorrow we will be in touch regarding our Critical Worker Provision, meal provision and Remote Learning Plans. All learning will be posted online tomorrow for all children in all classes on Microsoft Teams. Please have your username and login details to hand as these will allow you to access the work set by teachers.
More information will be sent tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding.
Best Wishes,
Sam Eden and Sally McDowall (Headteacher and Chair of Governors)
School Reopening Update-January 2021
Dear Parents and Carers,
School will reopen tomorrow morning for the start of Term 3 and we are very much looking forward to seeing everyone. Ahead of our return, I would like to highlight some systems and procedures that we already implemented last term but would like to reiterate once again to ensure maximum amounts of safety for all.
You can help us to stay as safe as possible by ensuring the following;
- Do not mix with other household bubbles outside of school (this is a requirement of Tier 4)
- Wear masks/face coverings at all times on drop off and collection (unless you are exempt)
- When dropping off or waiting for children at the school gates, remember to maintain at least 2m distance from others
- Leave the school site as soon as you have collected or dropped off your children
- Communicate with staff via phone or email unless absolutely essential
- Remember to stick to the staggered collection and drop off times you have been allocated (try not to arrive too early-the gates will not open any earlier than 8.45am)
- Ensure only 1 parent per drop off and collection each day
Other points for consideration;
- Please be aware that the school is kept well ventilated and now that temperatures have dropped again more consistently, please make sure your child is dressed warmly
- Keep your child at home if they or anyone in your house develops symptoms until you have a test result which we will then ask you to share with us-if negative, then a return to school can be planned. If the test result is positive, then we will need to have further discussions about the next steps.
- Please make sure that we have the correct contact details so that you are able to come and collect your child asap if they are displaying any symptoms. Please let us know of any changes to your contact details as soon as possible.
- Please remember to let the school office know if you are unable to collect your child as normal and who will be collecting
- If your child needs to engage with home learning for any reason, please ensure that this learning is completed each day. Every lesson we teach flows into the next lesson and if one part of that sequence is missed, then it makes it very difficult for children to keep up. We will follow up any instances where parents choose not to engage with home learning-staff ensure that high quality home learning is online (via TEAMs) each morning that a child is absent due to Covid-19 and all work should be completed in the Maths and English homework books that have been sent home and should remain at home. The lessons placed online are the lessons that the child will miss from that day.
I know that all of the media speculation and the rising case numbers are incredibly worrying. As always, you have our absolute assurances that we will do everything we possibly can to ensure the health and safety of the children and staff in school every day. Should you need to discuss any element of the return to school with us, please feel free to email. As always, you have the email addresses of school staff and we are happy for you to send any messages directly to us.
I am very much looking forward to seeing you all in the morning for Term 3 and the start of the Spring Term.
Best Wishes,
Sam Eden

School Reopening 4th January
Please can I ask you to play your part in helping us to stay open and safe and remember that the rules in tier 4 mean that you mustn’t mix households and must stay at home as much as possible.
Anyone in your household who has symptoms must get tested immediately and all other members of the household should isolate until the results are known.
I will keep you updated if things change but for now take care, enjoy the celebrations this evening and tomorrow and I will see you at your staggered start times on Monday morning.

Virtual Tour
Dear Parents and Carers,
ancaster.360-virtual-tour.co.uk
We are sharing our brand new virtual tour with you on as many platforms as possible as not only are we incredibly proud to be able to utilise latest technologies to showcase our fantastic school, we know that parents feel that not being able to currently come into school as you would usually can be unsettling. As parents/carers, we seek comfort in the familiarities of our child's routines and everyday surroundings when they are away from us.
With this in mind, please do spend time looking at the tour and visiting the classrooms and also allow your child to look at this and share their classroom with you (find out where they sit, where their tray is etc and any work on the walls that might belong to them)-this will really help them share an element of their school life with you and provide you with the opportunity to hold a dialogue with your child about their time in school.
I do hope that you enjoy looking around and exploring the school-we have worked so incredibly hard in recent years to provide learning environments that are bright, lively and engaging as well as ensuring that the spaces are conducive to effective teaching and learning. Please share this widely with family and friends as well as anyone you know who might be looking for a prospective place for Foundation Stage next year (September 2021) or a mid-year admission into school this year as now we have expanded our classroom spaces again, there are currently limited places available in all year groups except the current Reception year group where we are full with waiting lists in place.
Any feedback you are able to give as a result of accessing the tour will be greatly appreciated. We constantly strive for the best for your children and love hearing from you about the provision in place to enable our school community to flourish and thrive whilst always being the best we can be!
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Safe Parking
Please see the message below that was sent out on the 22nd october 2020
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had many of you contacting us regarding parking issues outside the school this week. We are aware that it is very difficult to find a space when dropping children off at school and do sympathise with this problem if it is essential that you bring your car to the school. However, the safety of our children is paramount. None of us want to have to face the devastating news that there has been an accident, particularly when this could have been avoided if we had taken care when using the roads around the school.
We ask that you do not park on the yellow zig-zags outside the school. These are to keep the area designated as a safe space. There is the argument that these are not deemed as enforceable, but they are there to keep your children safe and is the reason that we spent time contacting highways to have these safety measures put in place. If parents have any exemptions such as a blue badge, we do have a designated space in the school car park for dropping off and picking up. Please do use this space, but we ask that parents do not use the staff car park unless they have this reason as it is a very busy pedestrian area at the beginning and end of the day.
If you do see cars being parked inappropriately then, in line with guidance from our local PCSOs, please do take photographs of the offending vehicles and pass these on to the police as they will deal with it from there as a police matter.
Mr Eden has been in recent contact with the PCSOs who are arranging visits to the streets around school at drop off and collection times in order to heighten the policing around this issue.
Thank you for your support. I know that we can work together to keep Ancaster safe for all of our children.
Have a lovely half term break.
Thank you and best wishes,
Debra Moore

Frequently Asked Questions-Potential Reopening
Letter from Headteacher and Chair of Governors regarding potential reopening of the school
Letter to Key Worker Parents
Dear Key Worker Parents and Carers,
I hope this communication finds you well. We have still been unable to finalise any plans for a potential, partial reopening of the school from 1st June as the government have again drastically updated their guidance and any planning we had done has now had to change. What we do know is that the children of Key Workers and other children agreed by the government will continue to get priority places ahead of any other children and it is with you that we must begin our planning. If you are a Key Worker, please can we ask that you read the attached letter carefully and consider its contents. When Mrs Mantle calls tomorrow to discuss provision for after half term, you can share any of your thoughts.
If you are unsure if you are a Key Worker (children can be in any year group), then please use the list in the link below to help you decide, based on your occupation, and consider if what is being proposed is something you would like to access. Please discuss with the school office it is. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision
Please be reminded that what is being outlined in this letter is fully dependent on any announcement from the Prime Minister when we are informed of the next steps in easing the lockdown and primarily the decisions we are awaiting on the reopening of primary schools, which is not due until May 28th. Everything we are suggesting at this stage, is purely for planning purposes.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office.

I hope you are all safe and well-take care!
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Free Activity Resources
Mrs Tomlinson would like to share the following free activity resource with you.
Sustrans Outside In is a free resource to help parents who are looking after their children at home.
Walking, cycling and scooting are great ways to keep active and healthy in body and mind. During this time where we are mostly required to stay at home, these activities become harder to do.
Sustrans Outside In provides fun ideas and inspiration for parents to bring education, health and wellbeing activities into their home.
You can access free resources by registering for the free parent newsletter. Over four weeks you will receive weekly videos, themed activities, games and challenges designed by the experienced company school officers.
Please use the link below to register.

Free Drama and Creative Writing Resources
We have been sent the free resource below from Leeds Beckett University to share with you.
A new and free creative immersive drama and creative writing project is being launched for pupils, ages 7-11 years, who are either in school or are home schooling.
The project, Saving Anksi, will launch week beginning 11th May.
Over 3 weeks, children are invited to explore the story by investigating artefacts from museums, storytellers and artists as they piece together clues in the story world. They will share ideas with other children through the story.
The story will also consider looking after our planet by exploring eco-literacy. We will also be running a creative writing competition (announced in week 3).
The project is a collaboration created by colleagues from the Storymakers Company, based at Leeds Beckett University and many of our associate storyweavers.
Safeguarding
Children are encouraged to share their story responses by uploading their creations, these will not feature any videos revealing children’s identities, but it can be their voices telling or reading their story with an image or picture. We would like to use children’s online ideas and responses to write about this story. We are using padlet software and so would like to request that teachers/parents/carers/ adults take responsibility for the uploading process. All uploads will be checked before they appear, and so you may need to wait for a day before your creation appears!
Please use the link below to start the adventure.

Secondary School Induction and Transition Meetings
Secondary schools have communicated with us and asked us to pass on to you that due to the current situation regarding Covid 19, it may not be physically possible to run induction and transition events in the summer term as they have previously done.
The schools are working to find a solution in order to support all children in their transition from Year 6 to Year 7 and this will certainly include supportive communication with Parents and Carers.
It may also involve a virtual experience or phased inductions over an extended period of time.
The schools will provide further information once they know what may be possible.

Free School meals Funding
As these challenging times continue and families find their circumstances may change, we would ask that you all take the time to see if your child is eligible for Free School Meals by following the link on the letter from Mrs Moore.
If eligible, this means that funding for free school meals would be available to support your child once the universal infant free school meal funding ends at the end of Key Stage 1. This also triggers additional funding for the school to provide resources to support children and their education.
Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Moore on the email address provided if you have any questions.

COVID-19 Update (16th March 2020)
Dear Parents and Carers,
As you will have no doubt seen on the news this evening, the government has updated its response to the growing concerns over the spread of COVID-19. Tonight, it was announced that changes have been made to those who should be self-isolating.
Please note that the new guidance says that if you have anyone in your household with symptoms of a new persistent cough and/or a high temperature (37.8C or above) then all members of the household need to self-isolate for 14 days.
I know you may be worried but I want to reassure you that we continue to monitor this rapidly changing situation and will make necessary changes as and when needed in order to manage the situation within school. In the meantime we;
• have increased cleaning routines to ensure that commonly touched areas are regularly disinfected.
• continue to encourage children to wash their hands regularly throughout the day in supervised hand washing.
• have cancelled all non-essential meetings and gatherings in school.
• have a plan which supports the full or partial closure of school, including home learning. This would be in case we are asked to close for any reason or if we do not have enough staff in school to remain safe to open as per the communication sent out on Friday.
f you would like to discuss your own family’s personal situation, or if you need to inform us that your family is self-isolating; please do not hesitate to call us on our school number 01400 230871 or email enquiries@ancaster.lincs.sch.uk
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden (Headteacher)

Christmas Fayre Information
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are looking forward to welcoming you into school for the Christmas Fayre this afternoon from 2.15pm. Please can we ask that you do not arrive before 2.15pm to collect any children as the car park and associated areas will be being finalised ready for the Fayre to begin at 2.30pm.
Please can we also ask that nobody attempts to purchase any items before the official countdown that will begin at 2.30pm.
Should you wish a different adult to collect your child, please inform the school office so that we can make the necessary arrangements with your child’s Class Teacher.
We have made the timings for the Fayre as they are as we hope that you spend all of the remainder of the school day with us. We have copious amounts of stalls both outdoor and indoor as well as refreshments that will be served in the school hall. This year, Mrs Claus has a wonderful grotto for the children to visit for £2 and will also act as a wonderful photo opportunity. We tried our best to get the main man himself, but he is extremely busy and Mrs Claus has said that she is the one who finalises all of his work anyway so it is time for her to get a little recognition. She is quite the character and we are looking forward to you meeting her.
If your child is not signed out by 2.30pm-they will be in with school adults in Class Scotland-make your way to Mrs Mantle in the office who will happily escort you to collecting your child. All children must be collected by 3.30pm.
Finally, wrap up warm-it is very cold and the main bulk of stalls are outside. We cannot wait to share our annual Fayre with you and hope you have a fantastically festive time!
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

School Closure
It is with regret that we have had to close the school due to a central heating failure. We are working with Lincolnshire County Council to resolve the issue. Please come and collect your child as soon as possible as the school is now too cold for the children to remain. We will keep parents/carers updated with developments to ensure that we communicate when the issue is resolved and update you with our plan for tomorrow.
School Closure-UPDATE
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are still awaiting for the issue with our heating to be diagnosed by an engineer and Lincolnshire County Council are dealing with this issue on our behalf. We will endeavour to let you know by 6pm the arrangements for tomorrow following the initial assessment by the engineer.
We understand that closing the school today will have put pressures on our parents and carers and do not underestimate the impact this has on work and childcare commitments. Thank you for your patience, understanding and support today it has been appreciated by the staff working to ensure that the children were sent home in a quick and safe manner.
I shall update further before 6pm.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden
School will be open tomorrow!
Dear Parents and Carers,
I am delighted to inform you that the school will be open tomorrow (22.11.19). The issue with the central heating has been resolved and we now have warmth returning to the school. We will leave the heating on throughout the evening to ensure that the school is warm for the children when they arrive in the morning.
Once again, thank you for your patience and support. We hugely appreciate this as closing the school is not a decision that would ever be made lightly.
Have a wonderful evening and I shall look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow.

Reception Intake information
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are very much looking forward to welcoming the newest additions to our school when they start next Wednesday in Reception and know that they will also be equally excited (and nervous no doubt) about the adventure that they are about to embark on.
Our gates will open at 8.45am. We ask that you make your way onto the playground and follow the signs to a meeting place where your child will then be taken to their new classroom. A bell will ring at 8.50am and this is the cue to send children into school. We encourage parents to send their children into school from the outset rather than accompany them as this can lead to children feeling that they need to be accompanied. There is one doorway into the classroom and a small cloaroom area that can get congested very quickly, so the school adults are able to monitor this carefully, we ask that you leave the children at the Foundation Stage door. A member of school staff will remain on the playground in order to help children know where they are going.
The children will be undertaking full days from Wednesday. So school finishes at 3.25pm. Please make your way to the main gates again and the staff will guide you round to where the children will be collected. As school staff get used to which parents are collecting which children, this might take a little while-please can we ask for your patience as we take the safeguarding of children incredibly seriously.
Finally, other than your child's water bottle and PE Kits etc, we do not need you to send your child with any other equipment. We have everything they need in school for them to have the best day and we are very much looking forward to seeing what they can create, develop, learn, discuss and question. If you haven't already, please ensure that you have signed up and logged into Good Lookin' Cookin' to order your child's daily meal. If you haven't yet done this, you may need to send your child with a packed lunch.
Enjoy these last few days of the holidays and we shall look forward to seeing you next Wednesday at 8.45am
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Key Stage 1 Outdoor Area
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our Year 1 and 2 Class Teachers have asked for a short message to be sent to ask that parents and children do not access their outdoor area whilst waiting in the morning for school to start. The area is marked by a multi-coloured fence and has a gate that is shut. We are finding that this is being opened and the activities that are set up for children to access during learning time are then being moved and disturbed by children wanting to play in the area. Please can we ask that children do not enter the outdoor space, the gate remains shut and that all children wait on the playground with the designated adult that is dropping them off until the bell is rung to signify the start of the school day.
Many thanks in anticipation for your support.
Best Wishes,
Mr Eden

Christmas Fayre
Dear Parents and Carers,
Ahead of the Christmas Fayre tomorrow, I would like to send some information that will help prepare the collection of the children and smooth running of the fayre. This year, we are trying to maximise the outdoor space and will be holding the Fayre outside at the front of school. Please wrap up warm as there will be lots to see and do and we cannot wait to share it with you.
Collection of Children
Children can be collected for the Fayre at 2.30pm. Please wait by the blue gates and once opened, proceed to where you collect your child usually. The teachers will ask you to sign out your child and they will then become your responsibility. Once you have your children, please return to the school car park and wait in front of the Christmas Tree as the fayre will not begin until all children have been signed out. Please note that the fayre is not open at this point.
Choir
If your child is in choir, please can we ask that the children are not collected until around 3pm (after choir have sang) as they are performing to start off the festivities.
Opening of the Fayre
Our choir will sing to their audience at approximately 2.45pm. Once they have sang, the Fayre will be officially opened. Please note that no items can be bought until the fayre is officially opened.
Children who are not collected
Children who are not collected will be supervised by school adults and will be in school until you collect. Should you come before 3.30pm, you will be able to collect from the Reception Class-please see a member of staff who will escort you to collect. ALL children must be collected at 3.30pm.
Parking
As we are using the school car park, we will have moved all of the cars belonging to staff to the road prior to the fayre taking place. Please can we ask that you, as best as possible, try not to park in the vicinity of the school and where possible, walk to the fayre. Another possibility is to use the Social Club and walk to the school to enjoy the festivities.
Christmas Jumpers
Whilst we recognise that tomorrow is the official Christmas Jumper Day and many establishments are encouraging people to wear them tomorrow, we are not taking part as a school and children should be in full school uniform for the day. Should you wish your child to wear a Christmas jumper for the fayre, then please bring this with you when you collect from 2.30pm and change them into it yourself-we are more than happy to see people looking as Christmassy as possible!
We hope that everyone enjoys the new format of the Christmas Fayre and the fun we are likely to have. Please note that all money raised will be spent on providing educational experiences and resources for the children so the more people that can come the merrier. We hope to see as many people as possible!
Yours Sincerely,
Mr Sam Eden
Headteacher

News Updates-06th November 2018
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please find below an update regarding several events happening over the next week.
Poppies
We have poppies and related items on sale in school each day to build up to Armistice Day and these will be sold until Friday. If you would like your child to purchase an item, please either visit the school office or send the donation in with your child where the box will visit the class each day.
Anti-Bullying Week
Next week is Anti-Bullying week and we participate in sharing the messages to raise awareness and proactively help to remove bullying from schools. As part of this, we are encouraging our participation in Odd Socks Day on Monday 12th September. There is no pressure on the children to wear the latest fashion or for parents to buy expensive socks-All children have to do to take part is wear odd socks to school, it couldn’t be simpler! We are not fund raising on this occasion, we are using this as a mechanism for raising awareness.
Children in Need
Friday 16th November is Children in Need Day and we will be helping to celebrate this worthy charity by encouraging the children to wear non-uniform, if they wish, for the day. We are also asking for donations of cakes to be able to hold a Cake Sale during school time so if you are happy to donate cakes, please ensure these are at the office by start of the school day on Friday 16th. You may send money with your child to spend at the cake sale but please ensure that this is in a marked envelope to avoid the child losing it etc. Thank you for your support in recognising the very important work this charity does.
Best Wishes,
Sam Eden

Class Identity Day-7th Sept
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have absolutely loved welcoming back the children this week as we begin the new academic year and just want to remind you of the Class Identity Day that is taking place tomorrow. We first made all parents and carers aware about this on the final newsletter in July. The children are all extremely excited to learn about their class countries and have begun to do so this week. Tomorrow, children can come to school dressed in their country’s national dress, colour of the flag or another idea associated with that country e.g. typical animal however big or small (or not at all as children may wear their normal school uniform if they wish). The children always enjoys these days which typically involve dance, art and food tasting!
We look forward to seeing everyone in school tomorrow.
Best Wishes,
Mr Sam Eden Headteacher

Headlice Information Event
Dear Parents and Carers,
In our bid to help support with the problem of head lice in school and at home, we have been able to gain the advice and expertise of a parent, Natalie Williamson, who has lots of practical advice as well as free head lice products to help support you overcoming the persistent problem. In addition, she has established L.I.C.E (Lice Information Control and Education) and has been working alongside a head lice solution NYDA, which is designed to eradicate the lice and their eggs in a single application. You can find out more about the product here http://www.nydasolutions.co.uk/
Natalie has kindly offered to hold a Q&A session with as many parents who wish to attend on Friday 11th May at 2.45pm in the Community Room in school. In return for attending, she has offered free boxes of the head lice product (rrp £14) and practical advice that will not only save you money, but will also help ensure that you have everything you need to keep the problem away in the future.
For more information on this talk and/or the product, please do not hesitate to email Natalie at liceuk@icloud.com
We hope you are able to join us for this session and look forward to seeing you there.

Biker Breakfast-Weds 25th April
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have some exciting news-As part of the Big Pedal, on Wednesday we are inviting anyone who comes to school on either a bike or scooter to take part in our Biker Breakfast. This will run from 8.30am where the gates will be open and the children (and adults) arriving on wheels will be treated to a breakfast. Dr Bike will be present at this event and has said that he may get the chance to look over some bikes to check their road-worthiness. If your child's bike needs some attention-Wednesday is a great opportunity for it to be looked at.
Further to this, the class with the most bikes/scooters in school on Wednesday will win a special prize with Dr Bike to take place on Wednesday so it would be great to have as many bikes/scooters in school on Wednesday. Dr Bike is providing special bike ramps for the children to use at playtime supervised by Dr Bike and the school's own Bike It champions.
Please remember that the Big Pedal is running throughout this week and next week. The Bike Fairy will be making surprise visits to the school and dropping random prizes onto children's bikes and scooters.
We hope to see a record breaking number of bikes and scooters in school and hope you can join us for Biker Breakfast.
Have an enjoyable evening and we look forward to seeing you in and around the school.
Best Wishes,
Mr Sam Eden Headteacher
Parent Consultations 18th/19th April
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are very much looking forward to seeing you at the Parent Consultations tonight and tomorrow evening. Hopefully you will have made a note of the time you booked when you made your appointment, however if for any reason you have forgotten then please give us a call and we will confirm your appointment time.
When you arrive for your appointment, if it is before 3.40pm please come to the main reception and wait in the foyer; the teachers will collect you from there. If your appointment is after this time, please come to Class Japan (Y3/4)-the classroom at the front of the school, where you will be able to sit down and wait for your child’s Class Teacher to collect you. There will be a whiteboard outside prompting you to the classroom for waiting.
Please be aware that these appointments are limited to 10 minutes slots per child. We endeavour to ensure that all information is passed on during this time, but should you need a longer appointment this will be offered for a later date to ensure that we see parents on time. Please ensure that you are on time for your appointment as this can also cause a teacher to over run on appointments and create a backlog for waiting parents.
We hope you find the appointments useful and very much look forward to seeing you at the appointments and sharing the many successes of your child(ren).
Best Wishes,
Sam Eden

We are OPEN!
School has reopened following the recent snow closures. It has been excellent to see everyone again and hear all about the snow-filled adventures! Thank you to everyone who took the time to say thank you for the communication throughout last week. We always endeavour to ensure that we keep parents as up to date as possible and informed of what is happening in school. We are just glad that everyone is safe! Welcome back and we look forward to seeing you at the beginning and end of each day!
Friday 2nd March-School Remaining Closed
Dear Parents and Carers,
I hope you have been enjoying the snow and making memories with your little ones. We made the decision to close the school as the safety of everyone connected to the school is paramount. Today, we have taken all factors into consideration including the fact that the roads around Grantham and Sleaford and connecting roads have either been impassable or closed. The official guidance to schools this afternoon remains that the situation has not improved and is unlikely to change in the next 24 hours. Schools have been advised that travel is not recommended unless absolutely necessary. To ensure that we prioritise the safety of everyone, we have taken the difficult decision to remain closed on Friday 2nd March.
I am keen to let you know this as early as is physically possible so you can make any necessary arrangements whilst the school is closed. We are aiming for the school to re-open on Monday and will ensure that all channels of communication are updated to confirm this ahead of Monday.
I hope you all continue to be safe and warm. We look forward to seeing you next week when hopefully all will have returned to normal!
Best Wishes,
Mr Sam Eden (Headteacher)
School Closed 1st March-Snow Closure
Further to public safety advice issued by LCC this evening as well as our own updates from weather forecasts for this evening/tomorrow, we have taken the decision to close the school to ensure the safety of all school members (pupils, parents and staff). We wanted to let parents know as quickly as possible as we understand that arrangements will need to be put into place. Please be aware that we have not made this decision lightly and have done so to ensure the safety of everyone.
As tomorrow is World Book Day and children were due to dress up, we will celebrate this on Friday 9th March where children will be invited to dress up instead. We cannot wait to see their dress up creations.
For now, we hope that everyone stays safe in these difficult weather conditions and will update you further tomorrow on the status of the school for Friday.
School is Open-Update
Wednesday 28th February-Update-12pm
After looking at the weather conditions for the morning and forecast for this afternoon, we have decided that the school will remain open for the rest of the day unless the weather changes dramatically. Should we make a further decision mid-afternoon, we will communicate this as mentioned in the letter sent out on Monday. The children are having a wonderful day and will be undertaking a Snowman Building Competition at lunchtime with their friends and the hot school meals have just arrived, so the children are warm, safe and fed and having a great day! We look forward to seeing you later.
Class Thailand Trip to Woolsthorpe Manor-Cancelled
Dear Parents/Carers of Class Thailand,
We have just had notification from AC Williams that they have cancelled the coach trip to Woolsthorpe Manor tomorrow (1st March) meaning that the trip is now cancelled. This is beyond our control as a school and we will look to reschedule this as soon as we have been given alternative dates. All money paid will continue to support the trip taking place on an alternative date. Tomorrow is World Book Day and we appreciate that, as the children were attending the trip, they may not have a costume for the planned dressing up. Please note that there is absolutely no pressure to dress up and we will host a book related theme day in the coming weeks for Class Thailand. However, if children from the class have a dress up costume they wish to wear, they are more than welcome!
We are very sorry for the cancellation of the trip and will be in touch in due course to let you know of the rearranged date.
Best Wishes,
Mr Sam Eden Headteacher

Welcome Back!
Welcome back to all of our wonderful school community.
I trust that you have all had a brilliant Summer and judging by the enthusiasm of the children, they have certainly had the opportunity to recharge their batteries and are now back firmly into the routine of school.
A very warm welcome to our brand new Reception children who have made an exceptional start to their education. They are already getting to grips with the routines and school rules and as they get more and more settled, I am so excited to see their learning continue to flourish!
A full newsletter will be published on Friday 15th September and the Class Teachers have all sent home the Curriculum Maps, which set out the intended themes of teaching for this term and a letter providing an overview with more information for you. I hope you find this information useful and should help you to discuss the links being made in the classroom over the topic theme alongside any conversations to further this at home.
Once again, welcome back-it has been wonderful to see so many parents/carers already and I look forward to seeing many more as we settle into the school routines of 2017/18 academic year.
Best Wishes,

Ann Butters
Earlier this week, we were informed of the incredibly sad news that Mrs Ann Butters, the school’s previous Caretaker and Lollipop Lady, has sadly passed away. Ann was a truly wonderful person who many of the school staff feel privileged to have worked alongside. Having worked at the school for 30 years, Ann knew every nook and cranny of the building and was a real advocate for Ancaster and most importantly for the children of our school. Her strong work ethic meant that she undertook several roles in school over the course of her working life including Midday Supervisor, Cleaner, and most importantly, being our School Mum!
It is not only the staff that will be sad to hear this news. Ann touched the lives of so many people, not least those who were lucky enough to have been in her care across those glorious 30 years of working at Ancaster. Many of our parents are able to recall how she looked after them when they were little and how she was indeed their School Mum as much as she became ours.
Although Ann has passed away and we can no longer say it to her in person, there are two words everyone who knows her will possibly want to say and those two words are ‘Thank You!’ Thank You for being so smiley every day with the raucous laughter filling the corridors, for the constant cups of tea, the advice, the compassion, the care, the mischief, the friendship and most importantly for being someone who was true to herself and one of life’s most genuine people!
In remembering Ann, this week she was described as ‘a legend of her own lifetime’ and we think just that-She is a legend of Ancaster and one that will be very sorely missed. Our very best wishes and thoughts are with the family at this sad time.
Welcome Back!
Wow! What a wonderful start to the school academic year. The children have been so excited to be back at school and the staff have worked hard to ensure that the classrooms and learning environments are the best they can be! We are delighted to be back helping children flourish and be the best they can be and look forward to seeing what we can achieve together.
Disco-23rd September
Our wonderful PTFA have decided to hold a welcome back disco on the 23rd September to celebrate our return to school. Mr Eden will, once again, be donning the decks to become DJ Eden and the night will be full of fun, party music and outfits as well as treats which will be able to be bought at the disco.
Entry is £1.50 and this includes all drinks whilst the children are present. Money can be brought to the disco where sweets and crisps and other treats such as glow sticks can be purchased. The timings for the disco are as follows;
Reception/Year 1/Year 2-5.30pm-6.30pm
Year 3/4/5/6 6.30pm-7.30pm
We look forward to seeing your children party the night away on the 23rd September.

Arrangements for Sports Morning and Summer Fayre
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please find below the arrangements for the Sports Morning and Summer Fayre to be held on Friday 8th July. We are very much looking forward to sharing the day with you all and hope to see as many parents, friends and family as possible at both events.
Sports Morning
Sports Morning will start at 10am. Parents can arrive onto school premises from 9.50am and are asked to wait on the playground but not the field. A briefing will be held with parents at approx 10am on the playground. We are asking that children come to school in their school PE Kit (No football strips please) and they will spend the day in this clothing. The weather forecast is changeable at the moment, so please ensure that children have suncream applied if appropriate, sun hats are in school and a full bottle of water to take around with them is available. Also, if it is forecast to rain, then we may have to cancel the Sports Morning and we will look to reschedule.
The first part of the morning will consist of a carousel of activities aimed at technical sport skills in which the children will earn points for their team. Children will be split into mixed age teams and siblings will be in the same team allowing parents to be able to move around with their children and watch the different activities, positively cheering the children on. After the carousel, the children will regroup into their classes at the running track and a range of running races will take place. Children will sit in classes on the side of the track closest to the fence and parents are to position themselves on the other side. The children coming 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any race will be awarded with a sticker and they will also earn points for their team. Children will also be awarded with stickers for taking part. We will then collate all of the points and the winner will be announced to the children early next week.
We envisage the Sports Morning to be completed around 11.30am.
Lunchtime Arrangements
After finishing the races, the field will be cleared of school PE equipment. The children will all be taken back to their classes where they will organise themselves whilst parents set up their picnic. The field is yours to set up your own space and we ask that parents then come to their child's class to sign their child out. At this point, each Teacher will have a class register and we will ask that you sign to take responsibility for your child as the school staff begin to make the preparations for the organisation of Summer Fayre.
Should you still wish your child to have a Hot School Meal, or have chosen for them to have the cold option, our lunchtime team will be in school so this can be facilitated. Any children who have not been collected will have lunch as normal.
Following feedback from last year, the PTFA will be starting the BBQ as soon as the races have completed so you will be able to buy your lunch from our scrumptious team.
Unfortunately, we cannot allow parents to consume alcohol on the school premises and ask that this is not brought as part of the picnic.
Any children who have not been collected by parents will be kept safe until either someone collects them or the end of the school day. If you are aware that you will be unable to collect your child but still wish for them to be able to take part in the activities, please send them with money in a clearly marked envelope and explain to the teacher who will arrange for them to be escorted around the fayre.
Summer Fayre
Summer Fayre will begin around 1pm. We have had confirmation of some exciting stalls and events which will be on offer throughout the afternoon.
At the end of the afternoon (approx 3.30pm), the raffle will be drawn and there are some exceptional prizes so please support us by buying many tickets (remember, you have to be in it to win it).
We look forward to seeing you in and around school on this date and hope you can join us for some or all of the school day.

During Term 6, our Value of the Term is Responsibility. We will be exploring key concepts around this theme over 6 special worships led by Mr Eden each week. You can help your child's understanding of this by talking to your child(ren) and using the attached information to help.

Biker Breakfast
As part of our Big Pedal celebrations, we will be holding a Biker Breakfast on Wednesday 27th April first thing in the morning. Anyone cycling to school (including siblings and parents) will be able to tuck into a breakfast courtesy of the school. We look forward to seeing you.
158 Children on Roll!
It is with such delight that we are able to say that there are now more pupils at Ancaster than ever before in over 150 years.
With 9 new pupils joining the school in various year groups across the school, we now have 158 children on roll which is 33 more children than the school had 18 months ago.
Welcome to all our new families-we hope you have had a great start to the term.
Sport Relief Update
We are thrilled to be able to update you and let you know that due to your very kind donations, an impressive £147.32 was raised for Sport Relief. This money has been sent off and will be put to good use by the charity. Thank you!
The Big Pedal-Please cycle or scoot to school
The Big Pedal is in full flow and is a whole school virtual race against other Lincolnshire schools. The more people bike/scoot to school each day, the further we will travel in the race. The number of bikes and scooters on the premises each morning will be the total figure for that day so any parents wanting to join in are more than welcome! We will also be holding competitions between each of our own classes to find out which class is contributing the most-Good luck everyone and happy cycling.

Opening Ceremony Update
We will be holding a very special Opening Ceremony for the new classrooms that opened in September. On the morning of Tuesday 22nd March, the school will host a series of VIPs who have been invited to officially open the classrooms. Councillor Patricia Bradwell will be cutting the ribbon in a special service and we are lucky to be joined by some very influential members of the education profession who have kindly agreed to come and take part in the celebrations.
Whilst, due to space constraints, parents are not invited to the official opening ceremony, we are keen to continue the celebrations over the course of the day to mark the occasion. We will be asking the children to create an Easter Bonnet for the Mad Hatters Tea Party that will be taking place that afternoon and would love for you to join us for this element of the day. We will be hosting the Mad Hatters Tea Party from 2pm and this will feature a parade and official judging with prizes for the best bonnets. We really hope you can join us in marking this very special occasion.

Message from Mr Eden
We recognise that changes can occur with respect to picking up arrangements at the end of the day. However, we have recently noticed that the number of calls the school receives in a day asking us to inform children of changes has increased dramatically. To reduce the additional burden this administration is placing on the school; please can we ask that, where possible, arrangements are made prior to the school day starting and changes are only communicated via the school office as a last resort. Thank you for your cooperation with this.
Refurbishments Update
As you are aware, we remain committed to ensuring that the main building is completely refurbished to the highest possible standard. Having started our work on the school just under a year ago, we have completed over 90% of the school with just one part of the main corridor and the school hall to refurbish.
Over the course of the Christmas break, we had the corridor leading to Class France decorated as well as the library space redeveloped and transformed into a new Curriculum Kitchen. In this fantastic space, the children can cook and bake their own creations in line with the DT curriculum and enrichment. Having had groups working in this room all week, the children have given this new area a big thumbs up!
Parent Questionnaire Feedback
We recently conducted a parent questionnaire with our full parent body and the results are below. We are incredibly pleased to announce that our school has a 100% parental satisfaction with parents and carers agreeing that the school offers the best education for their pupils and are delighted with this feedback.

Disco Fever
Our wonderful PTFA held their first Disco of the academic year and it was a huge success. We had 110 children attend and whilst the actual total is still being calculated, approxiately £250 was raised on the evening! Thank you to everyone for your support and to the children for making it a wonderful event!
Christmas Fayre Information
Get in the Christmas spirit and purchase some of your gifts at our annual Christmas Fayre. Each class will be running their own stall plus we’ve invited local businesses too. We have crafts, gifts, decorations and so much more. You can join in the raffle to win a barrel of booze or a mountain of chocolate, play some games and indulge in some Christmas refreshments (mince pies)!
Children can be collected from 1.10pm onwards from their classrooms and then at 1.30pm, any remaining children will be in Class France. When collected, children will need to be signed out by an authorised adult who will then take full responsibility for them for the remaining time in school. Any child not collected before 3.30pm will be helping on stalls or be supervised undertaking Christmas activities in class. ALL children must be collected by 3.30pm.
We are aiming to have a wonderful Christmas Fayre and hope that you are able to join us and begin the festive celebrations.
A message from Mr Eden
We are aware that parents often need to speak to teachers before the start of the school day and we try to overcome this by ensuring all staff are on the playground each day from 8.45am prior to the bell ringing at 8.50am.
On reviewing our fire risk assessment and safety policies and procedures, we have identified a potential hazard that involves parents letting themselves into the school via the playground entrances to find school staff and speak to them. When this is the case, we have no way of knowing who is in the building at these times and we ask that parents who need to pass a message on, please speak to the teacher when they enter the playground or make a longer appointment via Mrs Beard in the school office. Please note: Class Teachers will need to leave the playground as soon as the bell rings to ensure they are available for all of the children in their class.
Starting School in September 2016?
If your child, or someone you know is due to start school next September, please be aware that the application round opens on Monday 16th November. Should your child have a sibling in school, make sure that this criteria is outlined in the application as this will strengthen the application and secure a place at the school.
Anti Bullying Week
The week commencing the 16th November is Anti Bullying Week and we will be holding discussions around this very important subject with the children, to refresh their understanding of what constitutes ‘bullying’ over ‘falling out’. We try to focus on the language of bullying being ongoing, deliberate and unfair. If the three elements are all working together, then we investigate an incident as an act of bullying. By making this criteria explicit, children may want to discuss this further at home. We will never tolerate bullying of any instance in school and parents can rest assured, our policies and procedures for handling incidents are regularly scrutinised and updated.
Christmas Fayre
It may seem a long way off yet, but Christmas is only around the corner. Our Christmas Fayre is planned to take place on Friday 11th December between 1.30-4pm- We hope you can join us for this event and if you wish to hold a stall, please see Mrs Beard in the office who will be more than happy to book you in for this wonderful festive event.

Harvest-Thank You
Harvest in church today was an excellent example of what our school is about. The children showcased their learning but all the while showed compassion for those without basic supplies of food and shelter etc. It was such an excellent experience and we are thrilled with the outcome. There was lots of positive feedback from both the Key Stage 1 and 2 festivals and we cannot thank you enough for the very kind donations sent in to give to Grantham Foodbank.
Year 1 and 2 Flu Vaccine
For the first time ever, each child in Year 1 and 2 across Lincolnshire is being offered the nasal spray flu vaccine in school. Parents of Y1/2 children have been sent all of the information they need to register for the vaccine to take place in school. Please ensure that these completed forms are back in school as soon as possible and note that these vaccinations will take place on Tuesday 20th October 2015 administered by the School Nursing Team.
PTFA Meeting-15th October 3.45pm
Our PTFA will be meeting on Thursday 15th October at 3.45pm. We would love to see new faces joining us and welcome anyone wanting to join forces to help fundraise for the pupils of our school.
Our very special travelling postcard!
Way back before the school broke up for the Summer break, we set the children a challenge to send the school a postcard from a place they visited. Following our return in September, we thought that we had received them all, but on Tuesday 29th September, the postman delivered a very special package.
It would seem that the postcard that Phoebe Duggan, one of our Year 4 pupils, sent from Devon during the holidays, went on a very special journey of its own and ended up being delivered to a school in Australia. The Headteacher of Doncaster Primary School in Melbourn, Australia decided to send it back to us and let us know the extraordinary journey that the postcard had been on as well as enclosing some lovely gifts including a picture book, Possum Magic and some information about their school. They had also asked their youngest children to write postcards to our Reception children.
We are planning on writing back to the children at Doncaster Primary School in Australia and hopefully we can establish links with this school. We have contacted the local newspapers and they will be publishing this in next week's papers. Pictured above is Phoebe (second from the left) with her classmates and some of the items sent back from Australia. What makes this even more special is that Phoebe is in Class Australia (the class name for Y3/4) and this has been an excellent (albeit mistaken) way of learning more about this wonderful part of the world.

Refurbishments in the Main Building
A whole wave of work has been carried out over the summer break to the main building. We have had the offices and staff room completely refurbished and classes Madagascar and Australia have been painted. New doors are in the process of being fitted and this will be finished during October half term. This work, alongside that already taking place last year has made the school very fresh and exciting. Curriculum Maps and Parent Letters
Each teacher in school has been busy planning their curriculum content and we have pleasure in providing you with a curriculum map and parent letter which will come home with your child. Please ensure that you read these as this will give you the valuable information you need to keep up to date with what your child is learning about. A copy of this will be placed on the school website. Should you require any additional information, please see your child’s class teacher.
Harvest Festival
Harvest Festival
Our annual harvest festival will take place on Friday 9th October at St. Martin’s church. As we now have too many children to fit the whole school into the church as well as parents, we will be holding two separate harvest festivals. These will be:
9.30am-Key Stage 2
10.30am-Key Stage 1
We hope you will be able to join us for this important celebration. If you are able to walk with a class to help maintain adult:pupil ratios, please see your child’s class teacher.
We are very excited to be working with Ronnie Ownsworth and Cola Jennings who will be delivering an exciting workshop on the 28th September to promote harvest and love british food fortnight. More information will be published nearer the time.
Class Dress Up Day-10th September
As part of your child's learning about their Class identity, the 10th September will be a theme day linked directly to their class country and culture. As part of this learning we would like all children to come to school dressed in a way linked to their country. This could be as elaborate as a Kangaroo (for Class Australia) or as simple as clothing in the flag colours. Thank you for your support with this, we look forward to an exciting day full of imaginative learning.
School is open-Welcome Back!
Welcome back to term 1 of this brand new academic year. We hope you have all had an excellent Summre break and ready for all of the adventures and opportunities we have to offer. school will be operating at the usual times and we look forward to catching up with everybody.
New Build-short delay on classrooms
There has been a very short delay applied to the opening of the new classrooms (which are looking exceptional)! We have been informed that the rooms will be handed back on Friday 5th September, after school. That means that Iceland and USA will not be in their new rooms until Monday. Provision has been put into place for the children of these classes to be taught within the main building for the next two days. We simply cannot wait for everyone to be able to see the latest addition to the school-having been allowed inside for the first time this week, the staff team were bowled over by how amazing the spaces are and how fantastic this is for Ancaster Church of England Primary School.
Correct Uniform and School Resources
On their return to school, children have that first day smartness about them. New clothes, shoes and bags as well as a very healthy attitude to their own responsibilities, ie keeping their lockers tidy, making sure they have their PE kits etc. Often, for some children, this diligence can wear away as the term, or school year, rolls on. Having had two very successful training days, all staff have agreed that we, collectively, need to ensure that ALL children are ready for school and we have agreed criteria which will be used to ascertain whether any child is not meeting our expectations as a school. These criteria include;
-Attendance (all children's attendance should be 95% or above).
-Uniform (all children should be in the correct uniform with shoes and not trainers).
-PE kits are always in school.
-Children are not late and in school ready to learn for 9am at the very latest.
-Homework is completed to a high standard and is completed on time.
-Reading records are in school every day.
We will be monitoring this very closely as we believe that bring ready for school and having the right attitude and behaviours for learning will breed successful minds and cement children's attitudes to be the best they can be. Please help your child achieve the list above-we want to foster responsibility but our high expectations are a two way partnership with the high expectations you undoubtedly have at home. Thank you.
New Build Update
Further to our recent communication, the new build classrooms are on track to be built within the timescales set out in the initial plan.
Please note that the date for the classrooms being craned into position has now changed and this will take place on the 12th August. Please do not park in the vicinity of the school on this date as the sections of the classroom will be brought into the village and any obstructions will delay the placement of each section.
The foundations have now been laid and this next exciting part is very welcome!
Don't forget to send us your postcards
Don't forget to send us a postcard from somewhere that you have been, whether that is on holiday or for the day, we want to hear all about your adventures. Address the postcard to your child's new class and these will all be shared in the new term.

School is closed for the summer break and will reopen in September. We look forward to hearing all about your summertime adventures via the postcards sent to school.

Sports Morning and Summer Fayre Arrangements
Dear Parents and Carers,
Please find below the arrangements for the Sports Morning and Summer Fayre to be held on Friday 10th July.
The weather forecast is predicted to be hot, so please ensure that children have suncream applied, sun hats and a full bottle of water to take around with them.
Unfortunately, we cannot allow parents to consume alcohol on the school premises and ask that this is not brought as part of the picnic.
Any children who have not been collected by parents will be kept safe until either someone collects them or the end of the school day. If you are aware that you will be unable to collect your child but still wish for them to be able to take part in the activities, please send them with money in a clearly marked envelope and explain to the teacher who will escort them around the fayre.
Summer Fayre
Summer Fayre will begin around 1pm. We have had confirmation of some exciting stalls and events which will be on offer throughout the afternoon.
At 2.30pm, we will have the final of Ancaster's Got Talent. The children have all taken part in class talent shows and have chosen their winner to compete in the final. These 5 groups of children will all perform for you and we hope to draw a crowd to showcase their many talents!
At the end of the afternoon (approx 3.30pm), the raffle will be drawn and there are some exceptional prizes so please support us by buying many tickets (remember, you have to be in it to win it).
Confirmed stalls and activities are;
-Wine or Water - thank you for your kind donations- any other donations of wine are greatly appreciated.
-Face Painting
-Bouncy Castle
-Tombola
-Raffle
-Lucky Bags
-How many balloons in the car?
-Beat the inflatable goalie
-Police Visit-Barbara Mooney PCSO
-Bicycle Smoothie Maker-Cycle to make a smoothie
-Bicycle Spin Art-Cycle to create a picture
-Bicycle Penny Farthing
-Class Stalls
-PTFA BBQ-Tasty Delights to be sold from the school BBQ
-Refreshments-Tea, Coffee, Drinks and Cakes on offer-Any donations of cakes are greatly received and can be sent to the office right up until Friday lunchtime.
Please be reminded that as you will have signed your child out via your child's class teacher, you are signing to say that you will take responsibility for your child. For this reason, you are free to leave the premises at any point with your child but we hope you can stay with for the afternoon to share in the wonderful activities we have planned.
I recognise that there is a great deal of information in this communication but hope that you now feel fully informed about how the day will be structured.
As previously mentioned, we are delighted to be able to offer such a family filled, community fun day and hope that we are able to see you there.
Yours Sincerely,
Mr Sam Eden
Headteacher
School is Open!
Dear All Parents,
Having spoken to the Fire Team and Environmental Health dealing with the emergency at the recycle plant in Ancaster, they have assured the school that the children are safe to walk to, and be in school. We will keep all windows and doors closed and the children will not be out at breaktimes. They have assured us that there is no reason why children should be absent from school today as there is no risk to public safety with the school being open. For this reason, we expect all children to be in school today. Any parents who take the decision to not send their children in to school on the basis of this fire, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised.
Yours Sincerely,
Mr Sam Eden

Olympic Athlete Visit
On the 18th June, the school will be visited by swimmer Jo Jackson, who is also an Olympic medallist. We are working with a charity called ‘Sports for Schools’, which provides fundraising opportunities, as well as allowing children to meet a sporting athlete. Your child should have brought home their sponsor form and we would love you to gain as many sponsors as possible. The children will, on the 18th June, be undertaking different sports with Jo Jackson and this day promises to be a wonderful event that will certainly be remembered for a very long time. All money gained from sponsors should be back within school 1 week (in a marked envelope) after the event has taken place and the money raised will then be split between the charity and the school (the school money will be used to buy new resources). Thank you in advance for your contributions.

New Build Update
The consultation on our PAN increase has now closed and I thank you all for taking the time to ask any questions during this period to ensure that every has been thought about by all members of the school community. We are currently awaiting confirmation of dates from Lincolnshire County Council about the next steps but the information we are being given is very much in line with what was written into the proposals. We are incredibly excited here in school. There is much to do and Mr Eden is travelling to a school in Bedford on the 18th May to see one of the units that we will be receiving. I will take lots of pictures and will publish them via the school’s website to keep you up to date with the latest information.
Congratulations Mr Swain
A huge congratulations from all at Ancaster to Mr Swain who married his fiancé, Leonie on Saturday. We are sure you will join us wishing them all the best in their new adventure as man and wife.
Local Democracy at Ancaster
We were swept along with election fever on May 7th and helped promote the Modern British Value of Democracy by encouraging the children of Years 5 and 6 to stand for election in a vote to find the Captain and Vice-Captain of each of our school teams. The children all read their speeches beautifully and highlighted that we have some real contenders for the political parties of the future. Well done to all children for their excellent efforts and we take great pleasure in providing the names of the children gaining the most votes.

To further enrich the school curriculum and ensure that our children are taught spiritual, social, moral and cultural skills we have planned an exciting week of learning for the w/c 23rd March. Within this week, we will be using the creative arts to link with stories from the bible and the Christian faith. Children will be encouraged to use their skills from DT to create pieces of learning that can then be displayed around the school and further add to our identity as a Church School. We are extremely excited about this week and look forward to be able to share this learning with you.
Easter Service
Our Easter Service will take place at St. Martin’s Church on Wednesday 25th March at 9.30am. This will be led by Reverend June Freshney and will be an exciting opportunity for the brilliant learning the children have undertaken on Easter to be showcased. We are very much looking forward to beginning our Easter celebrations and hope you will be able to join us. Please let Class Teachers know if you are able to assist with walking children to church.
Y3 and 4 trip to PGL
As part of our package with Inspire+, the children in Year 3 and 4 have been invited to attend a fantastic, adventure packed morning at PGL Caythorpe on Friday 20th March. This will be an excellent opportunity for the children to develop their skills in PE as well as work collaboratively to solve problems. Please can all Year 3 and 4 parents ensure that the relevant reply slips have been sent to the school office prior to the trip date.
Happy Mother's Day!
From all at Ancaster Church of England Primary School, we wish all our lovely Mums a very happy Mother's Day. We hope you get spoilt and treated with your children showing you just how special you are.
Cake Sale-Friday 15th May
We will be holding a Cake Sale on Friday 15th May in aid of Christian Aid. As well as cakes made by the children of Class Lesotho, we would appreciate any kind donations to sell as part of the sale. Should you permit your child to buy a cake, please send them with up to £1 in a clearly marked envelope and they will be able to purchase these at playtime.

New Teaching Assistants Joining our Team
Following a rigorous and robust selection process, we are delighted to be able to inform you that we have now appointed two new Teaching Assistants to strengthen the support in our Key Stage 2 team.
Mrs Anna Dickinson will be working in all classes across Key Stage 2 each morning and Miss Jessica Crosby will be based predominately in Class Brazil each day.
We were overwhelmed with the number of applicants wanting to work with our children and staff and are looking forward to welcoming these new members of staff into school. They will be starting with us as soon as possible.
Welcome back message from Mr Eden
I hope you had a fantastic festive break and are ready for the term ahead. I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all well, welcome you back and wish you a very happy new year!
One issue that we have noticed on returning to school and would like to bring to your attention is around snacks given to children for playtime. Please be reminded that only healthy snacks are permitted at these times and we will not allow children to eat crisps and sweets during any playtime. We run a very affordable Healthy Tuck Shop which sells a variety of fruits and healthy snacks for as little as 10p-please send money with your child if you would like them to access this facility.
We monitor playtime snacks every day during playtimes and we have spoken to the children about the choices they make in selecting their snack-we do know there have been instances where children have taken an item from their packed lunch and brought this onto the playground and have held conversations in school to address this.
I trust that you will be supportive of this and thank you in advance for taking the time to read and consider this message.
Look out for Parent Letters and Curriculum Maps from Class Teachers as well as Attainment Grids for the autumn term for pupils in Years 1-6 which will be with you by Monday next week. I look forward to seeing you all very soon; should you require a meeting, please do not hesitate to catch me on the school gate or see Mrs Beard to arrange a meeting.
Thanks and Best Wishes,
Sam Eden

Writing Shed
You may have noticed the new shed on the playground-it has raised many questions as to what it will be used for. We are very pleased to announce that this is our Writing Shed which has officially opened this week. It is filled with different pens, paper, colouring items and much more. This has been a welcome addition to playtimes with children being able to write and explore their creative side in their free time.
PTFA Christmas Film Night
The children had a wonderful time at the PTFA Christmas Film Night-Home Alone was the most popular film and with the hall full of children watching their favourite film with their friends. They were treated to popcorn, sweets, ice cream and drinks throughout the evening and a fantastic £121 was raised at this fabulous event. Thank you to everyone who attended and of course our wonderful PTFA for ensuring this event was such a success.
Christmas Fayre Success!
On Friday 12th December, our school transformed itself into a Christmas Wonderland for our Fayre. The sheer number of people in school, the amazing atmosphere and the sight of our community coming together was a sight to behold. Thank you to everyone involved in making this year's Fayre one of the best yet-Merry Christmas!
We raised a phenomenal £474.37 which we will be added to the School Fund. This money is used solely to support the children's learning and school experience. In the past term, we have used money from this fund to support the costs of class visits and buy resources for the new writing shed.
Key Stage 2 Choral Poetry and Carol Service
On Friday 12th December our wonderful Key Stage 2 children performed and sang their hearts out in our Choral Poetry and Carol Service. This was a fantastic church service that certainly began the spread of Christmas cheer amongst us all. Term Time Holiday Requests
Term Time Holiday Requests
We have noticed recently that there has been a sharp rise in the number of requests for holidays during term time. Please be reminded that we will only authorise absence where it is deemed an ‘exceptional circumstance’ and family holidays do not meet these requirements. There are strict procedures in place from the Local Authority and Department for Education for schools to consider imposing penalty notices to parents where term time holidays are taken regardless of being told that the absence will not be authorised. To ensure that your child receives the best possible education, they need to be in school and we ask that you refrain from booking trips that will impact on pupil learning time.
Best Wishes, Mr Eden.

Ancaster is revealed as being in the top 2% of schools for Phonics.
Last week the school received the amazing news from School's Minister, Nick Gibb, that due to the school's consistently strong data from the Y1 phonics screening check, the school is now judged as being in the top 2% of primary schools in the country in the teaching of phonics.
We are very proud of our phonics provision and are also very proud of all pupils and staff who work incredibly hard to be the best they can be in all areas of school life. The fact that Ancaster has been highlighted for this acheivement is fantastic news!

Changes to school Spelling Procedure
Change to Spelling Procedures
Spelling is a vital element of the curriculum and it is taught discretely in all classes as well as being applied through all areas of the curriculum. In Key Stage 1 spelling is an essential element of the daily phonics session and in Key stage 2 it continues to be taught in daily SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) lessons.
Traditionally, spellings are issued weekly to be tested the following week, however as a school we feel that the impact of testing these spellings is minimal and the time spent in doing so would be better utilised actively teaching the children and helping them to apply their spelling learning in context.
We have therefore decided to no longer issue and test weekly spellings. Instead we will issue word lists that children are expected to learn for the term/year. You will then have the freedom to help your child learn these at the pace that suits your child and test them yourselves if you feel this is appropriate . In school assessment of spelling progress will take place each long term, as part of assessment week, and will assess the spelling patterns taught in class as well as those learnt at home.
Should you have any questions about this please see your child’s class teacher.

Thought/Quote of the Week
'Nothing in this world is ever completely wrong. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day'.
Author: Paulo Coelho
Welcome Back!
A very warm welcome back into school for all parents, pupils and staff. We are very keen to hear all about your summer adventures and hope that you had a brilliant break. We look forward to sharing the new topics and themes with you via curriculum maps and parent letters being sent out shortly.
Congratulations Mrs Parsons!
A huge congratulations to Mrs Parsons and her Husband, James who welcomed baby Mia Grace into their family during the summer break. She was a healthy 7lb 13oz and from what we hear is growing well as Mrs Parsons enjoys her maternity leave. We wish her all the best and look forward to meeting her soon.
Reading Records and Diaries
This year, we have issued each child with a Home/School Learning Diary and Reading Record. After many years of using a standard format, we felt that investing in our pupils and giving them a record to be proud of would help children understand the importance of reading.
These books have been given out today and we have launched them in our collective worship. The book features handy hints for parents in helping your child to read at home as well as reminders of the Golden Rules and the School Values.
We are committed to ensuring effective communication between home and school and as a result, we have ensured that there is space each week for parents and school staff to communicate beyond the recording of reading at home.
It must be noted that the cost of these books is significantly more than the previous versions sent out and for this reason, upmost care must be taken to ensure they remain in a good condition. We never expect to see the front of books being written on or coloured in and any entries made should be done as neatly as possible.
Should any child lose this book or it be damaged in any way, the school will ask parents to buy a new diary at a cost of £2.50-As they are personalised, we have a limited stock left in school and replacements will need to be paid for. We know how brilliant the children are at taking responsibility for their belongings and hope that they enjoy the record and you have fun reading together at home.
PE Kit
Please ensure that your child has their PE Kit in school on the given days. Children need to be able to participate in their 2 hours of Physical Education each week and this cannot happen if they do not have the correct clothing and footwear. Please ensure this remains in school for the duration of the term. We will be writing to parents where children have missed PE on three separate occassions due to lack of the correct clothing.

Amazing Attendance
As you will be aware, we monitor the attendance of every pupil incredibly closely each half term. At this point in the academic year, we are able to view the whole school attendance figures for the year as a whole. Last year, the school achieved a whole school attendance figure of 95.63% which was in line with national expectations. This year, we wanted to raise this so attendance in school reflected pupil’s keen attitudes and desire to be in school and learning. Parents have engaged with the Exceptional Circumstances Policy introduced in September 2013 and far fewer requests for time away from school have been submitted. As a result, the whole school attendance for this current academic year is a fantastic 97.20%, which is an excellent increase on last year. Please be reminded that your child should be in school unless they are ill or have a genuine reason to be off. We will make contact with parents whose children are regularly absent, late, being picked up early and hope that you will continue to work with the school to secure the excellent attendance figures seen this year! Well done everyone!
The following pupils all clearly have super immune systems, as they have all achieved 100% for the whole academic year! A huge congratulations and well done to; Gabriella Roberts, Charlie Askham, Ava Roberts, Misha Foster, Willow Hanks, Jack McDowall, Lois Taylor, George Fisher, Harvey Greenhalf, Jasmine Hendry, and Jessica Heron.
Goodbye and Good Luck
Now we are at the end of term and begin to reflect upon the year, our minds naturally turn to those members of staff who are leaving at the end of term. We would like to wish these members of staff the very best for the future and hope they enjoy the new chapter of their life.
Goodbye to Mrs Good who leaves us to spend more time with her family as well as work for 3 days per week at one of our Collaborative Partnership schools, Welbourn Primary School. We are sure staff, pupils and parents join us in saying a huge ‘thank you’ for all of her hard work and efforts over the last 7 years and for her excellent leadership in securing the positive future of our school. Good luck for the future-you will be sorely missed!
Mrs Pack has also made a life-changing decision. After celebrating her 65th birthday back in April, she has decided to hang up her pencil case and retire from her position as a Teaching Assistant. After 22 years, this was not an easy decision for her to make and we know that she will miss us as much as we will miss her. She is keen to make frequent visits back to school and we will certainly continue to utilise her skills and expertise. Good luck, Mrs Pack!!!
Goodbye and good luck to Mrs Ives and Mrs Duncan who are moving on to new teaching posts in different schools. We hope your move is a successful one and we will miss you in and around Ancaster.
Mrs Campbell has completed her teacher training and is now a fully-fledged teacher with Qualified Teacher Status. We wish her well for next year!
Mrs Parsons begins a very new chapter in her life with the expectant arrival of her new baby which is due in the Summer holidays. She will begin her maternity leave in August and we wish her well for a safe labour.
School Closed for Summer
School will be close on Wednesday 23rd July for the Summer break and will reopen on Thursday 4th September for Term 1. We hope you have a wonderful and enjoyable Summer break with lots of fun filled activities. We cannot wait to hear all about these when we come back and wish you the very best for the Summer Holidays.
Wanted! All pre-loved books!
Do you have books that are no longer read as you or your children have read them so many times or are too old for them? Please bring them in for Class 4's stall at the Summer Fayre, where they can be loved by someone new and raise money for school!
Every book donated with be swapped for a raffle ticket and a prize could be won!
Good Looking Cookin'
Good Looking Cookin' our new Hot Meal Provider from September came to deliver a free taster sessions to pupils and parents on Monday 23rd June. There was a fantastic turnout and the feedback from all was incredibly positive. They brought a delicious chicken curry, brilliant beef hotpot, scrumptious sweet and sour chicken, perfect pizza and a selection of cakes to taste and to see the hall awash with people enjoying the food was excellent!
More information will be made available in the coming weeks-please see Mrs Beard in the office should you require more information in the mean time.

Today (Wednesday 11th June) we held our first Biker Breakfast. It was absolutely fantastic to see so many people ride their bikes/scooters to school and receive their breakfast. Even some parents got involved and came on bikes too! We hope that you will encourage your child to ride to school even on non-event days as this promotes healthier alternatives to driving and cuts down on emissions from cars in our village.
We will publish photographs on the website soon-but once again, thank you for supporting this project-it is very high on the school agenda and will only work with your full support.

Dr Bike's Surgery Success!
What a fantastic day! We welcomed children into school on their bikes and scooters today and what a sight it was. 4 weeks ago, on a normal day, there were 6 bikes in the bikeshed. Today, the sheer number of bikes was amazing-see the photo below! We had Dr Bike in school who fixed punctures, rusty chains and any other issues and the children left happy on their roadworthy cycles following their bike M.O.T. A huge thank you to Dr Bike (Jon Moody) from Sustrans who is working with the school to promote the Bike It project-keep your child riding to school-very soon, the storage facilities are going to be dramtically improved.

Bookfair
Mrs Ives has been busy organising the latest Bookfair to visit school. The Bookfair is a wonderful opportunity for you to buy books whilst supporting the school. We have negotiated a fantastic deal with Scholastic Books, who will give us 100% commission on all of the books sold. This is a fantastic opportunity as we will then be able to use this money to purchase new books that will support teaching and learning across the school.
Recent research has shown that there is a direct link between reading for pleasure and a child’s attitude and enthusiasm for learning. Please foster a love of reading in your child as this will impact positively on their motivation to succeed and be the best that they can be.
Bookfair will be visiting school w/c 6th May and will be available each night after school-we look forward to seeing you there!
Sustrans
We have received the fantastic news that we have been accepted to be part of the Bike It project being run by the charity Sustrans.
The project aims to help children and parents recognise different options for sustainable transport. We will investigate new storage facilities within the school grounds and want to actively encourage as many children, parents and staff to change their travel habits and cycle to school. We all know that the morning/afternoon traffic can be difficult and this would help alleviate some of the congestion at these times as well as act as our contribution to cleaner air for Ancaster.
The project is in the process of being launched. Please look out for more information coming soon including a Dr Bike session where children and parents will be able to bring in their bikes and have them checked over by Jon Moody, our Schools Officer and he will also fix any parts of the bike to make them roadworthy with the sole aim to get you out cycling as a family.
Homework
As you will be aware, the homework that we send out to children across the school has been under review and we have looked closely at the current provision to ensure we are challenging our pupils to be the best that they can be. For this reason, we have implemented a new homework policy which can be found in the parents section, and within the policies tab.
We have listened to the views of pupils, parents and staff and used this information to formulate the policy which sets out very clear expectations for the provision of homework within every year group in school. From next week (w/c 6th May), you can expect each piece of homework;
-to come with an explanation of how the homework fits in with the learning in class
-to have a WALT and Steps to Success
-to include an example
-to be differentiated to suit the ability of all pupils
-to be sent out on the same day across the school and expected in on the same day (this may differ for class 5 as this class has two teachers undertaking a job share).
We are also introducing a code system in which parents will need to inform members of staff of the amount of help needed to complete the homework task as well as indicating the level of ease/difficulty in which your child found the homework. This will be stuck into the front of the homework book and we will be using this to help us assess the quality of the pieces of homework returned to school.
At Ancaster CofE Primary School, we believe that homework is a crucial factor in helping pupils consolidate and extend learning that has taken place in class. It is an effective way of checking that pupils have retained the information taught to them as well as fostering independence and time management skills in order to complete the tasks set.
We ask that parents support the school in ensuring the homework is completed on time and is carried out to a high standard. Any cases where pupils have not participated in the homework that has been set or if the standard is not in line with that displayed within the normal class settings, we will ask the children to use their playtimes to complete the work.
We know that many children feel that they need a little extra support with their homework so are very pleased to be able to inform you that Homework Club, run by Mrs Campbell will begin again on Tuesday 6th May after school (3.30pm-4.30pm). Should your child have been a previous member, they will not need to sign up again whereas any new members will need to gain a letter from Mrs Beard.

Gardening Club
It is with a heavy heart that, due to lower numbers of pupils attending, Mrs Blankley and Mrs Wills have decided to stop running our Gardening Club. This club has been an absolute asset to the school and we are very sorry this club will no longer be available after half term. We must thank both Mrs Wills and Mrs Blankley for all of their hard work in providing this club over the past 3 years and for ensuring the front of school looks so beautiful throughout the year.
They have used gardening club funds to buy 3 new benches which have been built and placed next to the pond to facilitate seating in the outdoor classroom. These are a welcome addition to this area and look brilliant.
Both Mrs Blankley and Mrs Wills have said they will provide information and support to any green fingered parents who wish to take the club forward. Please contact the school if you are interested in running Gardening Club.
Happy Easter!
From everyone at Ancaster CofE Primary School, we wish you a very happy Easter. In school we have been exploring the Easter story and thinking carefully about what this means to each of us. We have looked at the religious symbols linked to Easter and also why we use Easter Eggs to mark the Easter festivities. On Easter Sunday, take some time to reflect with your family and think about the true meaning of Easter.

New - Fab Friday!
'Fab Friday' is a new whole school project promoting Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Learning.
Every Friday, during the last session of the day, all children are grouped into their Teams (Planet neames) and work with a Team Leader (Class Teacher) on a project. Term 4 is all about Music and each Team is working on a Performance of a Classic Disney song, which will be performed in week 6. The first week created a real buzz of enthusiasm and learning, where older and younger children worked together toward a common goal, it was a joy to see!
Arriving late/picking up early systems
Should your child arrive late to school, you will now need to accompany them into the school office and sign a record of lateness with Mrs Beard. Please do not drop your child off at the gates if they are late, leaving them to walk in alone, as we will be tracking lateness and sending letters to
parents where persistent lateness is becoming an issue. Similarly, if you are picking your child up early for any reason, you will be asked to sign to say they are leaving the premises and the reason why they are going. We are also tracking instances where children appear to be consistently leaving school early and should this become an issue, we will make contact with the parents via a formal letter.
Strike update!
Please note that the school will not be closing for the planned strike action, due to take place on
March 26th. Whilst staff support the reasons for the strike, on this occasion, the school will remain open with each class being taught by their normal class teacher.

New Behaviour Systems
Since September, we have been reviewing our behaviour policy, how we teach the children about making the right choices and the consequences attached to the choices we make. In light of this, we have consulted with the children and created our new set of Golden Rules. These are school wide
expectations that ALL children are required to follow on a daily basis. They are as follows;
1. Treat everyone with kindness.
2. Stop and listen carefully.
3. Do as you are asked first time.
4. Walk quietly and safely inside school.
5. Take responsibility for everything everywhere.
6. Always be polite.
The children have responded brilliantly and we are exploring in school the exact nature of
each Golden Rule and the situations and scenarios that the children may face in
school as well as in everyday life.
As well as this, we have discussed as a staff, and with the children, what happens when children
do not follow the Golden Rules and the sanctions in place to ensure children realise that there are consequences attached to the choices they make. We have introduced the ‘Behaviour Steps'. Each child starts each session on the ‘Golden Step' which represents the children following the Golden Rules. If a child chooses not to follow our rules, they will move down a series of 3 steps. Each move will bring with it a bigger consequence. Please see the document attached below for a visual representation and more information about the consequences in place. Where children make the right choices, we will ensure they continue to be rewarded with the many systems already in place to recognise good behaviour in school.
Film Club
Please be aware that there will be no more Film Club this term as Mrs
Duncan has scheduled leadership commitments after school on Mondays. We hope to
rearrange this club to begin again next term and will inform you of any changes
in future newsletters.
Welcome back!
Welcome back to Term 3. All at Ancaster wish you a very happy new year and hope that 2014 will bring lots of joy and happiness. The children have made a brilliant start to the term and we are all looking forward to the curriculum theme of Journeys which will be taking place over the course of these two terms.
We will be sending out curriculum maps and Parent Letters from each class and these will be out by the end of the week.

This year, the Christmas Fayre was our best ever. Each class spent time making items to sell and
members of the community came to set up craft, cake and art stalls. There was a real sense of community at the event and to see so many people in school enjoying the festivities was a fantastic sight to behold. It was also lovely to see Mrs Good who brought baby Benjamin (dressed as a festive reindeer) and thoroughly enjoyed speaking to parents, children and staff. We have been busy
counting up the money taken and we can exclusively reveal that this year's total is a mammoth £557.10. This will be added to the School Fund which is a reserve of money spent solely on improving educational activities and resources for all children in school. By adding this healthy amount of money, we are giving our School Fund a much needed boost and we Thank you for all of your continued support!

All performances were absolutely wonderful and showcased the children's many talents. A huge well done to the children as wellas all staff for their hard work and dedication!

Further to the brilliant news that Ancaster has been recognised as a top performing and improving primary school, we have received the news that we have been awarded the Silver Primary Science Quality Mark! This means that we have been recognised for the fantastic science learning and teaching across our school and the way the children are itching to learn through practical and exciting methods of investigation. It is fair to say that the application for this award was a very intense process that required a huge amount of work to create a portfolio which truly reflected the hard work that goes in to make science a success in our school. Well done to all of the staff for their continued hard work but special thanks must go to Mrs Parsons for co-ordinating the award and for ensuring science in Ancaster is the 'best it can be'.

We have been given even more reason to celebrate, as we received a phone call asking whether we were happy to share our school's story which is to be published in a government report. Recent studies have shown that education uptake is in decline but that the Primary School sector is going against the grain, achieving better results and continued improvements in performance.
As a result a report will be published entitled ‘SCHOOL INPSECTION PERFORMANCE 2013' and our school is to be 1 of 36 in the country to be included. The report will be accessible to all parents (current and prospective), all Local Authority Directors and every Primary Head in the Country.
We are truly putting Ancaster on the map and are well on the way to Outstanding!

Our recent science week was a huge success. We focused our efforts on outdoor learning and a scarecrow named Archie (who had come all the way from Ireland) helped set the challenge of the week's learning. We started the week with a fantastic treasure hunt that resulted in Archie telling the children that he thought the outdoor areas could be further improved and after speaking to Mrs Good, the children could spend the week learning about the outdoor and therefore improve it further. He also spoke to our brilliant PTFA who provided each class with £50 to spend on their area and each class worked incredibly hard to make a difference to their area.
Well done to all involved, the learning was fantastic and the different areas have certainly been brightened up. The eco friendly bunting around the playground is certainly a welcome addition.
Saturn win the team reward!
The winning team last term was Saturn. They chose to visit the park and great fun was to be had by all! Despite the cold weather, the children ran around and warmed themselves up on the different equipment. Even Mr Eden took part by having a go on the zip wire (much to the children's delight). All staff and governors would like to wish you all a very happy new year. 2013 certainly looks like its set to be a brilliant year!
Army Cadet Help
A huge thank you to the cadets of B Squadron, OACTU, RAF Cranwell who came into school in December and banded lots of library books to help with the reading scheme we have set up in school.
As you will be aware, we have moved to colour banding books matched to the children's reading ages and this has meant that the children are reading more books suited to their ability. With this in mind, the books we have in school were not all colour banded and the cadets offered their help with banding all of the library books to bulk out the home reading shelves, therefore having a direct impact on the pupils here in school.
This is such a huge job to undertake and a special thank you must also go to Rachel Turner, a parent volunteer and Simon Stafford a school Governor who coordinated the cadets coming into school. Thank you to everyone involved-the pupils and staff are extremely appreciative! See the photographs of the cadets hard at work below.

Anti Bullying Week
Our Visitor
We have an addition to the school in which the children are very excited about indeed. During playtime last week, we were shocked to see that a hedgehog had come to visit us and seemed to want to join in our playtimes. Class 2 affectionately named him 'Sonic' and we thought that he would be on his way... Imagine the shock when he tried to join in Class 5s PE session 2 days later. We thought we would provide a picture of Sonic for you all to see as he is becoming a real talking point across the school. We have ttalked to the children about the fact that hedgehogs are nocturnal animals and the need for them to be hibernating at this time of year-so our visit from Sonic has provided opportunities for lots of different learning.

On the 5th November we held our annual Firework Extravaganza run by our amazing PTFA. The support gained for this popular event was fantastic and to see the community come together with the school at the heart was a sight that we cherish every year.
We have totalled up the amount of money raised at the event and we are very proud that the event raised over £800 which will all be used to enhance the children's learning experiences in school.
We also gained an unprecedented amount of donated cakes for us to sell and for each and every donation we are truly thankful.
The PTFA are continuing to provide family, community fun filled events and look forward to sharing more details of future events with you in due course...but for now from everyone involved with the Firework Extravaganza...Thank you!
Welcome Back!
School is now open for Term 2. We are all very excited about what this next term will bring and hope that you are too. We will communicate any events via this website and the newsletter to keep you as informed as possible.Navenby School Tournament
Match report: Written by Sam Bailey and Harry Spencer
Ancaster School football team arrived at Navenby school first thing in the morning. Firstly, our team (Leigha, Harry M, Harry S, Jamie, Callum and Sam) as well as the other teams were told the rules.
After the first presentation ended, Ancaster started playing against Claypole. Ancaster got the kick off and Sam threw the ball to Harry S. He skilled one player then took a shot and amazingly, he scored! Following that, Sam scored an a great goal just 5 minutes after Harry S. Claypole scored more goals and the game finished 4-3 to Claypole.
Next we had a break to let us recover. Once we were ready, we played a tiring match against Brant Broughton but to our disappointment we lost 6-1 to them.
Ancaster Primary School knew they were knocked out but still had the determination to play the last game. We watched the last game and then went to the presentation to watch the medals be handed out.
We had a fantastic day and loved every minute of it. It is not the winning that matters it is the taking part that counts. We can't wait until the next time this happens again.

Money Makers Market
Wow! Our Money Makers Market was a fantastic end to the week. Each class set up their own stall selling their creations with parents and children filling the hall to buy the different products. What an amazing sight to see so many parents and children enjoying the sale. In assembly we talked about the profits each class has made and the winning class with the most profit was Class 1 who made a total of £81 profit.
Thank you so much for your continued support. These events are made so much more worthwhile when the parent engagement matches the children and today was a wonderful example of everyone working together. Thank you!
PTFA Fireworks Extravaganza
Tickets are now available for the Firework Extravaganza which, following on from the success of last year, will be taking place on Monday 5th November at 6.30pm. We are very excited about this particular event as it really does have a community feel. Please tell your friends from neighbouring villages as it really is open to everyone. Tickets are priced at £3 for adults and £2 for children and under 4s are free. There will be an array of treats to buy and enjoy before the fireworks and we look forward to hopefully seeing you there.
Film Club
Parent Assemblies
Thank you for your huge support for our parent assemblies which took place last week. We enjoyed sharing our learning with you so much and the huge crowds of parents that turned up to each of the assemblies was fantastic to see!
We will be holding more of these assemblies and cannot wait to share our next set of learning with you. The dates for the next set of assemblies will be announced next term.
Cinema Trip!
We are taking part in the National School's Film Week for the fourth year running and will be going to see the film 'Brave'. Your child does not need any money for the trip as they will not have access to the food and drinks. Children are expected to wear their normal school uniform and we will be back in time for lunch so there is no need for a pack up if your child normally has a hot school meal.
This trip, as much as it is a treat, is also about providing real life opportunities for children and allows us to use the film in our literacy learning as well as in any other areas of the curriculum where links can be made.
Money Makers Week
For the last four days of this term, the children are being encouraged to take part in our Money Makers Week. Each child will have the opportunity to unleash their inner Sir Alan Sugar and explore different ways of making money.
This week, as well as undertaking money activities with the children, each class has been given £20 from the PTFA for them to design and make a product that will sell.
ALL parents and carers are invited into school on Thursday morning between 10am and 11am to buy different products from the stalls. The children will then work out how much money they have made (or lost) and the winning money making class will be announced.
We wish all classes the best of luck and look forward to seeing you on Thursday.
Disco Profit
We are so pleased to be able to announce that the latest disco raised in total £210. This is a huge and fantastic amount of money that will help us with the Firework Extravaganza on the 5th November. Already, each class has been given £20 to help with their money makers week and we wanted to say a huge thank you to all the parents and carers who continuously support our school with our fundraising efforts.
The children had a blast at the disco, and left looking very sweaty indeed. We will be holding another disco in the Spring Term and will, of course continue to communicate all dates and details via the school website, newsletter and the PTFA noticeboard.
Firework Extravaganza TONIGHT!
The Firework Extravaganza is tonight and everyone is very much looking forward to this fabulous community event! Tickets are available on the gate and are priced at £3 for adults and £2 for children. We hope you can make it to share in this lovely experience where the school is at the heart of the community.
As last year, the school will not permit sparklers to be lit anywhere on the premises as a matter of Health and Safety and we will be selling glow sticks for children as a safer alternative.
We hope to see you there tonight and look forward to the different fireworks lighting up the night sky!
Gates open at 6.30pm and Fireworks will begin at 7.30pm.

Some of you will have noticed that during term 6 last year, we trialled the motto
‘Be the best you can be!'
Due to the enthusiasm shown by pupils, staff and governors, we have now made this the schools permanent strapline and the motto we will all be striving to live up to.
We hope you can help your children and the school achieve this and know that as parents you will also: ‘Be the best you can be!'
